Religious School News December 2011

The Preschool/Kindergarten Class has 6 children this year.  It meets two times per month under the instruction of Naomi Michelson.  This class is learning about the Jewish traditions and Holidays by the use of music, crafts and stories.  They are peer buddies for Sunday Services with the 7th Grade class.  The Pre-k/K class is doing lots of fun, hands-on activities.  Have you ever seen a Sukkah made from graham crackers and pretzel sticks?   Our architects in this class built them!!

As an introduction to the school year, right now the 1st Grade class is studying about the synagogue.  They have been getting ready for their Consecration and are reviewing the Sh’ma.   They have learned about the High Holidays, Sukkot, Simchat Torah and Shabbat.  The special project for Shabbat was learning how to braid Havdallah candles.  The braiding was practiced on play dough!!  They made very festive candles.  The 1st Grade teacher is Dorie Karp.

Special Events in December:

December 9:  5th Graders will be conducting Services @ 7:45 pm

December 23:  Chanukah Dinner and Shabbat Service

December 25, 27, and January 1:  No school, Winter Vacation

Reminders:  Please help your child to remember to sign in the Shabbat attendance book on Friday nights.  We hope all of the children will attend at least eight Shabbat services which is the minimum requirement to attend the Breakfast with the Rabbi in May.

Also, please be vigilant about Religious School attendance.  As explained in our handbook, students must attend at least 75% of the Sundays and 75% of the Tuesdays.

Please support our fundraising efforts and purchase the Redners and Giant gift cards.  We will also be starting a challah sale fundraiser  to benefit the school.
